It was never a secret that I was not a big fan of hospital stays. Having been only once in my life to give birth to my son. And here I was being rushed in an ambulance to a hospital in a town I’d never heard of, with just a clipboard containing details of my stroke from the Accident and Emergency department, somehow I ended up holding with my good hand during my ambulance ride.

As I was also COVID positive , I was given a private room which somehow had a very large window with views straight out of a Yash Chopra movie . Green hills, beautiful houses etc.

It was a surreal moment, in a surreal setting. Until that day I had spent my entire life trying to be in fully control of every aspect of my life. Now it seemed every thing I had worked towards so hard had seemingly been tossed out without any warning .

Even though my son and family visited me, as an acute stroke unit visiting was strictly limited, this gave me more time to think, reflect and come to terms with things that I just could not control any more. Having no TV and distractions also helped.

Here, I came to realise that sometimes life forces you to live in the present. You have no choice. No control. It is good because you need that. You will learn the lessons that you need to learn.

Such as, let the wonderful nurses to take care of me in Wycombe hospital, I was always the carer and it took some learning to let others take control, also doing what is best, which right now is to concentrate on myself and getting better.

I had gained a new perspective, it took an unexpected stroke, a foreign country and a dreamy isolated hospital room straight out of a #bollywood musical to achieve . #strokesurvivor#strokerecovery#thereishope#rehab#strokeawareness#pysiotherapy#powerofnow
