Thank you everyone for your messages of well wishes and concern. I have found it difficult to be open about it, but I think it is important to help spread the awareness of strokes. My stroke was an ischemic stroke which was caused by a clot in the brain, and has damaged the part of my brain that controls the right side of my body, arm, hand and leg. I spent a week at High Wycombe Hyper Acute Stroke unit, which is full of wonderfully supportive nurses doing an amazingly difficult job. I had CAT scans and MRI scans and neck Xrays and all sorts of blood and heart tests.
Now I’m concentrating on rehabilitation. I’m using lots of technology now to help me try to get different parts of my brain to re-route the signals to my muscles. As you can see in the video my fingers don’t move on their own, so I have a Gaemi glove ( https://ebay.us/ot145p ) which is doing the movements for me, and I hope that this will eventually help my brain realise where to send the signals. I never realised how tiring all this is too, just 20 minutes of conversation and I’m ready for a nap.
I will be bringing you with me on my journey and I hope that it will one day inspire another stroke survivor to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m still in the tunnel but I’m going to do my hardest to get out the fastest.
